Who are you?
Milo & Co. is a whānau run business based in Whakatū Nelson.
Why Kānuka?
Although Māori have understood the powerful skin healing properties of Kānuka (Kunzea ericoides) for hundreds of years, studies are only now catching up to confirm this.
Often called a "big cousin" to mānuka, kānuka boasts its own unique profile of beneficial compounds. Our kānuka balm harnesses the power of this native plant to offer gentle yet effective relief for various skin irritations.
Why organic?
Organic oil is generally considered superior to non-organic options due to several key factors that benefit both your skin and the environment:
Avoidance of Synthetic Chemicals: Organic farming prohibits the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. This means that organic kānuka oil is extracted from plants grown without these potentially harmful residues, reducing the risk of skin irritation or absorption of unwanted chemicals.
Purity and Reduced Contaminants: Without synthetic inputs, the resulting organic oil is likely to be purer and free from these chemical contaminants. This is particularly important for sensitive skin, as it minimizes the chance of adverse reactions.
Potential for Higher Therapeutic Value: Some evidence suggests that plants grown organically in healthy soil may produce oils with a richer profile of beneficial compounds. While more research is needed specifically on kānuka oil, the principle is that a healthier plant may yield a more potent and therapeutically effective oil.
Our kānuka oil will always be sourced from organic certified local suppliers as this is the ingredient that does the 'hard work' in our balm, however our other ingredients are not. This is so we can offer our balms at an affordable price. We are exploring an all-organic option too.
What do you mean by 'No fillers, perfumes or nasties'?
Our Kānuka Balm is 100% natural, with ingredients strictly chosen for their own individual soothing properties.
